Xel-HáRiviera Maya

Located about 20 minutes south of Cancun on the Yucatan´s peninsula east coast, Riviera Maya is rapidly becoming the number one tourism destination around the world. Situated in the state of Quintana Roo, it extends form the coastal town of Puerto Morelos south to Punta Allen, veering slightly inland from Tulúm to the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The Riviera Maya landscapes are full of amazing beaches and rich jungle.

Riviera Maya is a truly special place where jungles thrive with exotic flora and vibrate to the rhythm of tropical wildlife. Where an indigenous culture continues to nourish the ways of its ancestors, where the overpowering turquoise of the ocean inspires and welcomes those in search of paradise, where an alluring modern infrastructure fuses with the overriding need to preserve the natural and historical pulchritude of the region.

Xel-HáMayans across the Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya encompasses some of Mexico’s natural reserves and prized archeological sites. Descendants of the mysterious Maya civilization still inhabit some areas of the Yucatán peninsula. Visitors can explore ancient temples, some two thousand years old, where Mayans studied astronomy, created accurate calendars and invented the zero. Such of those places are: Tulum and Coba.

Mayan civilizations spanned from southern Mexico to Guatemala, Belize, and parts of Honduras and El Salvador and ruled here for over 3,000 years. Mayan plays a strong role in Mexican people daily life, whether it is ancient adopted by Christian worship.

Architecture it’s unique as Greek architecture. One of the most surprising aspects of Mayan architecture it’s the fact that they could build such amazing constructions without advanced technology, they used abundant manpower.

They believed in the nature of time, you can notice this by their rituals, which are close to celestial and Earth cycles which they knew by their advanced astronomy and calendars.
